What A Waymo One Sees

After the official launch of the world’s first commercial robotaxi-service, the first videos from inside the cars are popping up. And especially interesting is, what the passenger see on those little monitors in the car. Alex Madrigal, staff writer for the monthly The Atlantic, recorded a video of the monitor.

On the screen the car visualizes what it sees. Green is the pre-calculated route, which the car aims to maintain, and other cars are represented as flat rectangles in different lengths. Pedestrians are displayed  as simple figures, and when changing the lane the car announces that through voice. The video shows one example where you can hear “left”, while at the same time the green pre-calculated route switches to the left lane.
