Waymo Reacts to Hand Signals from Traffic Officer

A very interesting example of how a Waymo Robotaxi reacts to the hand signals of a traffic police officer was recorded by YouTube user Ollie in Los Angeles. You can see the Waymo trying to turn left at a junction controlled by a traffic policeman. The traffic policeman indicates to the vehicle to come closer, then stops the oncoming traffic and instructs the Waymo to drive. It reacts immediately and turns left.

Ollie also contradicts statements that the vehicle was being remotely controlled at that moment. He vehemently denies this, as such remote control is usually displayed on the monitors visible inside the vehicle.
