Caravans for the Electric Car Century

If the comments in the relevant online forums are to be believed, then these trendy electric cars are not suitable for anything. Because, according to the tenor, they cannot drive 1,000 kilometers at a stretch at 200 km/h with a horse trailer. And it’s true: the range of affordable electric cars may still leave something to be desired, but as time goes on, more and more solutions are coming onto the market that make combustion vehicles seem less and less like the only option.

While the challenges of going on vacation with an electric car and caravan used to be too great because the range would be dramatically reduced, electromobility allows new ways of thinking. Batteries and electric motors can not only be installed in conventional vehicles, but also in caravans.

The American company Pebble, with their headquarter in Fremont, CA, demonstrates this with the Pebble Flow caravan. This is fully electric and comes equipped with a 45 kWh battery pack. All devices in the caravan can be powered by the battery for up to seven days. And with the 1 kW solar system, it can also be recharged independently of charging stations. There is even a version with electric motors that can be controlled remotely and can maneuver and attach itself to the trailer coupling. The battery can also power a house in an emergency, like a Tesla Powerpack battery.

Up to four people can sleep in the caravan. The exterior length is 7.6 meters (25 feet), the exterior width is 2.3 meters (7 feet, 6 inches) and the exterior height is 2.7 meters (8 feet, 8 inches). The total weight with a full load is 2,800 kilograms (6,200 pounds)

The caravan will be launched on the market in two versions. One with a 45kWh battery for $109,000, and one with two electric motors for $125,000. Pre-orders are already possible and delivery is scheduled for before the end of 2024.
