RABus in Friedrichshafen

In Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance, the home of Graf Zeppelin, the autonomous test vehicles RABus – Reallabor für den automatisisierten Busbetrieb (real laboratory for automated bus operation) will be in operation until the end of November 2024. I was lucky enough to encounter two buses on my way to an event on autonomous driving in a cab still driven by a female driver.

There are safety drivers in this vehicle who intervene in the system if it has difficulties grasping a situation. The test operation was open to a selected number of test passengers. However, the project, which was originally started with ZF, has no chance of being continued following ZF’s withdrawal and the end of funding.
