Is Tesla Working on a Deal to License FSD to SAIC and Geely?

Tesla’s share price rally in recent days has been linked to Trump’s election victory, but the rumor mill continues to simmer. Tesla is said to be in negotiations with the two Chinese car manufacturers SAIC and Geely to license Tesla Full Self Driving (FSD). At least according to Ray4Tesla, who shared a post from China.

There have already been rumors in the past that other car manufacturers could be interested, but the Chinese government could require licensing to Chinese car manufacturers in order for FSD to be approved in China. Tesla is said to have demonstrated the FSD to representatives of the authorities in both China and Europe in recent months in order to initiate an approval process. This would be in line with Tesla’s robotaxi plans.

Allegedly, the city government has gone to SAIC this time and proposed a joint venture in which SAIC co-develops the FSD with Tesla. One reason the stock has risen in recent days. This is a quid pro quo for the approval of the Tesla FSD in China. In this case, SAIC might also be able to use Tesla’s FSD in its Smarts and passenger cars, the purple Audi and GM’s SAIC architecture cars, or at least benefit from Tesla’s FSD.
