With 50% fewer parts than the Model 3 and a body structure with 60% fewer components than the Model Y, massive cost savings should be possible with the Cybercab. This was explained by one of the Tesla engineers at an event organized by Tesla Owners Silicon Valley last night.
The question of why the vehicle only has two seats was also addressed, and this has to do with efficiency. For example, 82% of the kilometers driven are usually done by only one or two people in today’s vehicles, and such a design allows for easier cleaning and maintenance, as well as reliability and energy efficiency.
The tires are also optimized for rolling resistance, and the trunk is large enough to accommodate two golf bags as well as a foldable wheelchair. At 21 inches, the monitor itself is the largest screen ever installed in a car.
Here is a five-minute video with the explanations of a Tesla engineer.
