Motosurf: The Electric Surfboard

Electric mobility comes in many forms. One new facet is the surfboard, one of which I saw this week at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. The Texas-based company Motosurf builds short surfboards with an electric motor. You can see the battery pack (white) behind the surfboard in the second picture. Wheels can also be attached and detached for easier transportation (last image). The motor is controlled either with a handle connected by cable, or by unscrewing the handles and replacing them with the cable control. The surfboard can then be used on the knees.

The special feature of the motor is that it has a shaftless motor. As you can see in the following pictures, the standard motor is one where the propeller and electric motor are connected by a shaft.

Motorsuf has eliminated the shaft and integrated the motor and propeller. Fewer parts, less maintenance, less turbulence during suction.

Placed side by side, the motors look like this: the shaftless motor at the front and the shaft-driven motor at the rear.

The electric surfboard can already be pre-ordered, but the exact specifications and price are not yet known.
