Nuro, the Mountain View-based manufacturer of autonomous driving systems, is to expand into Japan. This follows Waymo, which began test drives in Japan’s capital a few days ago.
So far, Nuro says it has conducted test and mapping drives in 59 cities in the US, and is now expanding globally to Japan. This is also the first time that other types of complexity and unique characteristics of road traffic have been captured, including the following:
- Vehicles drive on the left-hand side of the road;
- densely packed urban corridors and narrow residential streets;
- unique driving behaviors and cultural traffic norms.
Test drives are due to start in the next few weeks with a number of vehicles.
