Waymo Expands to Dallas in 2026

2026 will be the year of massive expansion for Waymo’s robotaxi service. In addition to Miami and Washington, D.C., Dallas in Texas will follow, as Waymo announced today. And the launch of the robotaxi service comes with an innovation: the car rental company Avis is named as a partner that will take over fleet management. Waymo comments:

Waymo will offer our ride-hailing service to the public through the Waymo app, and our fleet will be managed through a new strategic, multi-year partnership with Avis Budget Group, a leading global mobility solutions provider. Avis brings decades of fleet management expertise, a track record of fast, efficient execution, and a commitment to adopting cutting-edge technology, which will help us scale the Waymo Driver even faster. Avis will provide end-to-end fleet management services, including infrastructure, vehicle readiness, maintenance, and general depot operations. This is an exciting initial phase in Dallas, and we intend to expand to more cities together over time.

Waymo currently operates robotaxi services in San Francisco, parts of the Bay Area, Phoenix, Austin and Atlanta. In Atlanta, by the way, with partner Uber, via whose app the Waymos can be ordered. The first vehicles are also on the road in San Antonio, Las Vegas and Nashville, where they are carrying out initial test and navigation map recording trips and will presumably start the robotaxi service at a later date.
