Waymo Involved in Fatal Motorcycle Accident

A Waymo robot taxi was involved in a fatal accident with a motorcyclist in Tempe, a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona. The empty Waymo was traveling in the right lane when it signaled right to turn right to pick up a passenger. Due to a pedestrian crossing the driveway, the Waymo stopped when it was hit from behind by a motorcyclist who failed to brake. The motorcyclist was thrown onto the road and another human-driven car ran over the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist later died in hospital from his injuries. The driver of the second car involved in the accident fled the scene, but Waymo provided the Tempe police with videos of the accident and the license plate number of the fleeing vehicle.
