Waymo Prepares Launch in London

The speculation about when and where Waymo will offer a robot taxi service in Europe for the first time seems to have been resolved. It will be London. As reported by The Telegraph, the final regulatory hurdles are currently being cleared and the service is set to launch next year.

Google’s robot car spin-off is getting ready to launch driverless taxis on Britain’s roads as ministers prepare to give the green light to rides.

Waymo, which is majority owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet, has launched a hiring spree in London for operational staff to manage a fleet of driverless cars and respond to incidents on the road, job listings show.

Autonomous taxi rides without a human driver behind the wheel are expected to begin in Britain next year and London would represent one of the locations.

The first job advertisements are already online, such as this one.

After Tokyo, this would be the second location outside the US where Waymo will be active, and the second one, where they drive on the wrong… – pardon me – left side.
