An autonomous police vehicle has been undergoing testing in Miami Dade for several days. Initially, a police officer will still be sitting inside to monitor the vehicle and gather feedback from the public. However, in the future, the autonomous police vehicle will patrol neighborhoods and also be the first to arrive at incident locations, enabling police officers to get an initial view of the scene.
The vehicle, designated PUG (Police Unmanned Ground), is equipped with cameras, lidar, radar, license plate readers, and a drone, allowing police officers to remotely provide a 360-degree view of a crime scene on the ground and in the air. The autonomous police car was donated to Miami-Dade by the non-profit Policing Lab.
