Following the initial announcement three and a half weeks ago, it is now official: Waymo is coming to London. This was reported by Google’s sister company on its website today.
Initially, test and mapping trips will be carried out to record the city and the specific characteristics of its traffic. The same Jaguar iPaces that are already in operation in the USA will be used for this purpose, with the steering wheel on the left-hand side.
The following boroughs will be covered: Barking and Dagenham, Brent, Camden, Ealing, Royal Borough of Greenwich, Hackney, Hammersmith and Fulham, Haringey, Islington, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Lambeth, Lewisham, Newham, Redbridge, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, Wandsworth, City of Westminster, and the City of London
No exact start date has yet been given for the launch of the robot taxi service, but interested parties can already pre-register. The postal code must also be provided.
