Zoox Opens Limited Robotaxi Service in San Francisco

It was suspected, and now it has started. Zoox has launched its robotaxi service in San Francisco, albeit only for a limited group of riders in a narrowly defined part of the city.

As reported by The San Francisco Standard, select rders can now call and use the futuristic-looking robotaxis via the Zoox app in an area between SoMa (South of Market), the Mission, and the Design District.

First Service Area of Zoox Robotaxis in San Francisco

A few weeks ago, I had noticed that Zoox vehicles had expanded their test area in the city. Zoox has been available to the public in Las Vegas for several weeks now, although pick-up and drop-off locations are very limited and waiting times can sometimes exceed an hour—this is what happened to me when during a Las Vegas trip I tried to order a Zoox at the New York New York a week and a half ago and was told the wait time would be 62(!) minutes.

No specific dates have been given for the expanded availability of robotaxis in San Francisco, but 2026 still seems to be the goal.
