Tensor Plans to Ship Private Robocar Factory Ready For Ridesharing

Tensor, the San José-based manufacturer of private robocars, plans to offer its vehicles ready-made for use in ridesharing services. The company announced a strategic partnership with San Francisco rideshare company Lyft, which has already ordered several hundred Tensor vehicles.

According to the manufacturer, Robocar is an AI-controlled vehicle based on an 8,000 TOPS supercomputer (with NVIDIA DRIVE) and featuring full redundancy for L4 autonomy. With this equipment, the vehicle can generate passive income for users by serving as a robot taxi while the owners are at work, for example.

Some of the vehicle features include:

  • End-to-end integrated AI that handles all perception, planning, and control without relying on external cloud systems.
  • The world’s largest personally owned AI device—processing and storing all data securely inside your vehicle.
  • PalmRead facial recognition, natural language voice interface, and gesture controls that enable intuitive, secure interaction.
  • AI that learns your preferences, anticipates needs, and offers proactive suggestions—such as scheduling, navigation, or mood adjustments—creating a highly personalized experience.
