Waymo Expands From San Francisco To San Jose, Including Highways

The patchwork is now complete. As of today, Waymo can be used continuously from San Francisco to parts of San Jose in the San Francisco Bay Area. Selected users can even use the highways.

The service also includes San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC) and parts of San Jose.

Starting today, selected users in Los Angeles and Phoenix can also take highway trips. More users will gradually be added everywhere, but first, users must register for a “trusted tester” program via the Waymo app.

The vehicles will strictly adhere to the speed limit of 65 mph (approximately 105 km/h) on highways, making them one of the slower vehicles, as most drivers travel at around 75 mph. If a passenger selects the “Pull over” option on the highway, the vehicle will take the next exit.

Brad Templeton has compiled more details.
