Last Saturday, a Zoox vehicle collided with the door of a parked car in San Francisco. Jamel Durden, the owner of the vehicle, had just returned from his lunch break, got into his 1977 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, and was about to close the driver’s door when a Zoox vehicle drove into the door, damaging it. Durden himself suffered injuries to his hand and complained of back and neck pain. The Zoox itself suffered damage to its sliding doors, which shattered.
Exactly how the incident unfolded will probably only be clear from the recordings made by the Zoox sensors. Did the Zoox actually overlook the open car door and drive into it, as Durden stated, or was the door opened immediately in front of the approaching Zoox, unable to brake in time “dooring” it?
