Tesla Discontinues Model S & X Production in Favor of Humanoid Robots

Elon Musk made a bombshell announcement at yesterday’s investor meeting. Tesla plans to discontinue production of the Model S and X in the spring in order to start production of the humanoid robot Optimus instead.

Fremont is the only Tesla factory where the Model S and X are manufactured. The Model S has been in production since 2013 and the Model X since 2015, but has lost importance for Tesla since the start of Model 3 and Y production. In 2025, sales of the two models slumped by 40 percent.

Instead, the factory areas where the two models have been produced so far are to be prepared for the production of Optimus, Tesla’s version of a humanoid robot. Humanoid robots are already being produced in Fremont above the automobile production area, directly under the roof, but still in small numbers. These numbers are now set to increase. Tesla is already using Optimus for testing purposes in production and wants to expand its use. These robots will also be sold to other interested parties in the future. Elon Musk has mentioned in the past that he sees humanoid robots as a bigger business than automobiles.
