In his latest blog Google-Waymo-CEO John Krafic posted the first pictures of the Fiat-Chrysler-Pacifica minivans that are equipped with Waymo-self-driving-car technology.A few weeks ago I could exclusively post the first images of the new cars here in this blog (see here and here).
After the self-driving car division graduated and spun off under the new name and entity Waymo, Krafcik also reports of new sensors and latest hardware processors that are now being used to equip those minivans. He did not go into more specifics in his post.
The cars were tested intensively since Fiat-Chrysler and Google signed the contract for the deliver of 100 minivans. The cars underwent rigorous tests on Google’s test track in California, and Fiat-Chrysler’s test tracks in Chelsea Proving Grounds in Chelsea in Michigan, and Yucca in Arizona. the cars also were tested for 200 hours in extreme weather conditions.
The cars are going to be used on public roads in 2017. Here are some more pictures from a few weeks ago.
