In Redwood City, in the middle of Silicon Valley, a handful of delivery robots from a startup called Starship Technologies are roaming the streets, and I encountered one of them today. The six robots are used by the online-delivery service Doordash and they look like cooling boxes on wheels. They are equipped with sensors, GPS, and some more technological gimmicks. They deliver food from restaurants to target destinations.
Doordash, a startup founded in 2013 by several Stanford students, plans to roll-out the use of delivery robots to the rest over the US. Here are recordings of one of the robots roaming a sidewalk and crossing a crosswalk.
