Uber Advanced Technology Group, the new name of the department that came out of Uber’s acquisition of self-driving truck company Otto, uses new sensors. As Techcrunch reports, Uber uses ATG HDL-64E-Lidars from Velodyne with 64 channels, as well as a new software platform.
One reason for those changes are coming from the still ongoing lawsuit with Waymo, that says Uber stole data and IP about self-driving car technology.
The truck is currently being tested in San Francisco and the Bay Area. More trucks are expected to be equipped and tested soon. Uber ATG is just one of several companies developing self-driving trucks in the Bey Area.
