Google-sister Waymo, which is developing technology for self-driving cars and currently the leader in this space, seems to successively expand its fleet. So far we knew about 600 vehicles that the company is operating, but now first pictures of (rumored) weekly deliveries of dozens of new Waymo minivans are popping up.
Waymo issued in May 2016 a first order Fiat-Chrysler Pacifica Minivans of 62,000 vehicles. Those seem to be now coming in significant quantities and being equipped with Waymo technology by the automotive tuneup specialist Roush in Livonia in Michigan. Waymo has collaborated with Roush in the past, when they designed and built 60 of the Firefly-cars.
This fleet expansions comes with the commercial launch of the world’s first commercial robotaxi-fleet in Phoenix, followed by a similar service in Mountain View and San Francisco in early 2019.
