Palo Alto-based self-driving technology startup Gatik plans to partner with Walmart to begin deliveries by fully driverless delivery trucks in the U.S. states of Arkansas and Louisiana. For the past year and a half, Gatik and Walmart have already been testing and developing autonomous technology with delivery trucks on a 2 miles route in Bentonville, Arkansas, between a warehouse and a store location, with 70,000 such trips made to date.

The refrigerated trucks are to travel the same route without a driver from 2021, and at the same time expand into another region. In Louisiana, a route of 20 miles between New Orleans and Metairie, where several delivery addresses are to be served by a Walmart Supercenter, is planned.
