Uber Presents Solutions for Robotaxi Providers

Uber’s efforts to develop its own technology for robotaxis came to an end in 2018 with a fatal accident, followed by the sale of its in-house self-driving technology division, Uber Advanced Technology Group (ATG), to Aurora. However, this did not mean that Uber had given up on autonomous driving.

With 30 million rides per day, Uber is one of the largest ride-sharing providers worldwide. In recent months, Uber has signed partnerships with a number of self-driving technology providers, opening up integration with the markets served by Uber. The list is already extensive and includes developers of robot taxis, robot trucks, and car manufacturers.

Uber is already working with some of these providers in commercial operations in a number of cities, including Atlanta, where driverless Waymos can be ordered via the Uber app.

Now Uber is going one step further and introducing Uber Autonomous Solutions, which can be used to manage infrastructure, user experience, and fleet management. Uber wants to ensure that its own business model does not simply collapse as soon as the share of robotaxis in ridesharing increases, but rather becomes an integral part of autonomous vehicle providers and operators.
