A self-driving experimental vehicle from Uber has fatally hit a woman in Tempe, Arizona. The victim had crossed the street with her bicycle outside of a crosswalk and was hit by one of Uber’s self-driving vehicles which was operating in autonomous mode with a safety driver behind the steering wheel. The accident happened in the night from Sunday to Monday.
It is the first fatal accident involving a self-driving car. Uber has stopped all tests of its over 100 autonomous vehicles. The company is fully cooperating with the authorities to figure out the cause of the fatal accident.
