England Opens Application Process for Robotaxi Service

The British government has now officially opened the application process for operators wishing to offer robotaxis and self-driving buses on public roads.

Under the new pilot program, companies can apply to commercially operate autonomous taxis, buses, and car-sharing-style vehicles throughout the UK, subject to government approval and the consent of local authorities.

Waymo, Wayve, and Uber are expected to be the first providers, and operations could begin later this year, according to the UK Department for Transport.
