Tesla Full Self Driving Now Permitted in 5 European Countries

Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, which is currently classified as a Level 2 system but is designed to eventually become a Level 4 system, is now approved in five European countries. The Netherlands was the first country to grant approval under Article 39 of UN Regulation 171, which pertains to driver assistance systems. Under this regulation, vehicles equipped with innovative technologies may operate on the roads of the approving country with a temporary permit. Each country must issue its own approval.

Following a request I previously reported on here, Tesla did indeed take this route. After the Netherlands—which granted Tesla the special approval in April following an intensive one-and-a-half-year review of FSD—Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, and now Belgium followed suit. All of them relied on the test results from the Dutch authorities.
