Amazon subsidiary Zoox currently holds a unique position in the market: rather than retrofitting existing vehicles, the company has focused from the outset on developing its own robotaxi. The result is a four-wheeled cabin in which up to four riders sit facing each other in pairs, much like in a train compartment or a gondola. The “Zooxie”—as Zoox employees affectionately call it internally—has no front or back, no driver’s seat, and can travel in either direction.

After several hundred vehicles have been in service in recent years in cities such as Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Foster City, the company has made some minor updates to both the interior and exterior of the vehicles based on rider feedback. What exactly has changed?
Vehicle Interior
In addition to padded and more contoured seats, the interior’s color scheme has also been slightly adjusted. The touchscreen now features higher resolution, grooves have been added to the smartphone charging station to provide greater stability, and larger cup holders have been installed. Here is the new interior;
The first version featured rather hard seat shells and darker colors. Here are some pictures of the old interior:
Vehicle Exterior
On the exterior, the most noticeable changes are the two displays that were previously located in the small side windows and are now positioned in the center on the right and left. The front and rear are also distinguished by clearer light indicators. Additionally, the microphones and speakers in the doors have been improved to facilitate better verbal communication with the vehicle.
