Following 15 metropolitan areas in the U.S. where Waymo already offers a commercial driverless robotaxi service, another dozen cities where the company is currently testing and preparing for launch, as well as six European and three Asian countries, Waymo is now beginning preparations in its northern neighbor, Canada. In the coming days, the first Waymo vehicles in Toronto are set to begin mapping runs and prepare for the launch of a robotaxi service in 2027. The challenges in Toronto are obvious: it is Waymo’s northernmost city to date, where there is also a lot of snow in the winter.
