Embark Raises $30 Million to Develop Self-Driving Trucks

San Francisco-based Embark announced today their successful Series B round of 30 million dollars led by Sequoia Capital, bringing the overall amount raised to 47.2 million dollars. The company was founded in 2016 and currently has 35 people, with a new office in LA opened earlier this year.

Last year the company started running commercial freights from El Paso in Texas to Long Beach in California with their autonomous trucks.

Their highlights for 2018 so far are:

  • Embark trucks can drive from LA to Phoenix without disengagement (without having the computer handing control back to a human driver)
  • 100,000 test miles driven with Embark trucks
  • Winning several Fortune 500 customers

In total there are more than half a dozen companies in the Bay Area working on autonomous trucks, including Waymo.
