It’s early March and the Tesla Model Y is already here. At least the parking lots holding the cars ready for delivery at the Tesla factory in Fremont seem to be overflowing with it. The parking lots are full of Model Y and Model 3, which also makes it easier to compare the sizes of the two types of vehicles.

The first deliveries to customers are to take place in March, six months earlier than originally announced. Although much less media attention is being paid to the Model Y, and there is no deliver-or-die-moment as with the Model 3, where Tesla’s survival depended on the successful launch of the Model 3, the Model Y is assumed to make Tesla less volatile in its profitability. In fact, some auto analysts suspect that the Model Y- given the popularity of SUVs – could prove to become Tesla’s most successful car model.
