AutoX Opens Driverless Robotaxis For The Public

In the Pingshan district of the Chinese city of Shenzhen, a driverless robot taxi service from AutoX has been on the road for the public as of today. The startup has been working on the development of autonomous cars for several years and joins Waymo as the second company in the world to operate a robotaxi service without a driver in the vehicle.

Like Waymo, AutoX uses Pacifica minivans from Fiat Chrysler and covers the entire 168-square-kilometer district. A total of two so-called teleoperators are available to intervene in special cases. AutoX is also testing a robot cab service in Shanghai, but still with safety drivers.

AutoX was founded in 2016 by Dr. Jianxiong Xiao, who has experience with autonomous vehicles from MIT and Princeton University.
