Elon Musk Promises Access To FSD Beta For Owners With “Good Driving Behavior”

Since last Friday, the approximately 3,000 customers with test access have already received version 10 of the Full Self Driving (FSD) software, and in the next few days more customers should be able to get it as well. However, only under one condition. As Elon Musk tweeted, Tesla first wants access to the data of the respective customer vehicle in order to observe the driving behavior of the owners over a period of seven days.

Beta button will request permission to assess driving behavior using Tesla insurance calculator. If driving behavior is good for 7 days, beta access will be granted.

If this driving behavior indicates to Tesla that the requesting customer is driving safely, access to FSD 10 is allowed.

This tweet makes clear what Tesla already has in place: thanks to Tesla Insurance, for example, which offered in California (and which I use myself), Tesla accesses the customers’ vehicle data and uses the Tesla Insurance Calculator to determine the driver profile and how high to set the monthly insurance rate. This can and is already adjusted periodically.

Now Tesla is demonstrating how it can use precisely this access to vehicle data for other purposes, for example by offering access to pre-release versions of other software functions depending on the vehicle data. Tesla is thus giving us a further insight into how important the car as a data machine has become for the business model and the brand, but also for customers. Further uses can already be seen in the approach, from offered function extensions to apps and media content, which Tesla can provide and be remunerated accordingly.
