It didn’t take long for a Cruise driverless robotaxi to be stopped by San Francisco police. On Instagram, a user posted this entertaining encounter, which took place in San Francisco’s Richmond District. Cruise has been allowed to operate its robotaxis commercially, driverless with passengers, for several weeks. The time is currently restricted between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Although there are guidelines for dealing with autonomous cars that have been provided to emergency responders, these police officers seem to be confused by the vehicle’s behavior. They stop the vehicle, because it has no lights on, and then continues to pull over after the intersection and turn on the warning lights.
The officers are visibly confused, and they call their superiors to explain the situation.
