Embark Presents Concept for Interaction with Emergency Responders

A few weeks ago, a scene caused a smile when one of Cruise’s robotaxis was stopped by the police in San Francisco and then drove away again after being stopped.

Yet recognition and safe interaction with emergency personnel and vehicles is an important test point for autonomous vehicles. That’s why emergency responders train with autonomous vehicles as soon as they begin operations in their region. In the process, they learn how to tell that it is safe to approach the vehicle, how to contact the operations center, and how to inspect vehicle paperwork.

The vehicles themselves are also trained to recognize emergency responders and vehicles and respond accordingly.

Now, autonomous truck developer Embark has produced a video showcasing how an Embark truck can be safely inspected by a police officer.
