As reported by the blog The Road To Autonomy, Waymo has registered and established additional European branches in addition to its Munich-based office in Germany: Waymo Iberia SL in Madrid, Spain (serving Spain and Portugal); Waymo France SARL in Paris, France; and Waymo Netherlands B.V. in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The registrations took place on June 11, 2026, in Spain; on June 15, 2026, in the Netherlands; and on June 23, 2026, in France. In Germany, the registration took place on June 15, 2026.
The naming of the Spanish branch as Waymo Ibera could indicate that Waymo is considering Portugal as well as Spain. The French branch is located at 95 Rue La Boétie in the 8th arrondissement and was established with an initial capital of €100,000.
The companies generally stated that their business purpose was “the provision of on-demand passenger transportation using autonomous vehicles, as well as support for third-party commercial offerings of these services.”
The registrations do not yet indicate when Waymo will officially put vehicles on the roads in these countries to begin initial testing and mapping. The ball is now in the court of the authorities, who may have a legal framework in place but for whom practical implementation and the issuance of licenses are still new territory.
