The U.S. state of Nevada has approved a total of up to 8,000 vehicles for three robotaxi manufacturers. On Thursday, the Nevada Transportation Authority unanimously granted three permits allowing Tesla, Uber, and Waymo to offer commercial robotaxi services in Clark County, where Las Vegas is located. Together, these permits would allow for the deployment of up to 8,000 robotaxis throughout the county over the next 12 months. The breakdown by company is as follows:
| Company | Number of Robotaxis |
| Tesla | 5,000 |
| Uber (Motional and Zoox) | 1,000 |
| Waymo | 1,000 |
Zoox, on the other hand, already has a permit to operate 100 robotaxis.
Most of the testing of autonomous vehicles to date has taken place in the “Golden Triangle,” an area between the airport and Las Vegas Boulevard—the so-called “Strip”—and its surrounding neighborhoods. Motional is also conducting tests in downtown Las Vegas and in a shopping district called “Town Square.” Just how many vehicles the three manufacturers will actually put on the roads remains to be seen over the next 12 months.
