Embark’s Autonomous Truck Makes First Commercial Deliveries

Since early October Silicon Valley startup Embark has been carrying commercial freight from El Paso in Texas to Palm Springs in California. On the 650 mile stretch along the I-10 freeway the trucks have been carrying fridges. There is still a safety driver in the car to take over in case of emergencies, as Wired reports.

Above the driver’s cabin the picture displays five cameras, on each front side a Lidar-system, and at the front bumper radar and ultrasound sensors.

Embark is only one of more than half a dozen Silicon Valley companies developing self-driving and platooning trucks.
