4 Million Trips Per Month? A Breakdown of Waymo’s Robotaxi Fleets in the U.S.

With today’s launch of its robotaxi service in Tampa, San Diego, and Denver, Waymo now operates a commercial driverless robotaxi service in 13 metropolitan areas. However, Waymo is keeping the exact figures regarding fleet sizes and the number of vehicles in service under wraps. Bloomberg is attempting to break down these numbers:

According to these figures, Waymo operates at least 3,800 robotaxis in the 14 cities (actually 15, including San José). In the San Francisco Bay Area alone, 1.4 million rides are taken each month. The total number can only be estimated. Since the SF Bay Area, with 1,200 robotaxis, accounts for just under a third of all Waymo robotaxis in operation, the number of rides across all Waymo fleets could be around 4 million per month.
