The Menlo Park, California based electric vehicle startup Lucid Motors unveiled its first vehicle. A few weeks ago Lucid Motors, formerly known as Atieva, teased audiences at the LA Autoshow with a camouflaged car.
The car stuns both with its design and performance. Videos from the past months demonstrated the performance of the drive-train. The acceleration was at 2.5 seconds from 0-100kmh. Lucid Motors chief developer formerly was in charge of Tesla’s Model S.
The Lucid Air is available with a 100 or 130 kWh battery option, which gives a range of up to 700km. The standard version can be preordered for 2,500 dollars, the special launch version for 25,500 dollars down payment. The car comes with all sensors and processors for autonomous driving. The first cars will ship in 2018 and cost between 65,000 and 160,000 dollars.
Like Tesla Lucid Motors is planing to open its own dealerships in 2017. Production will be done in a 700 million dollar facility in Casa Grande, Arizona.
