Waymo Shows iPace With Camouflaged LiDAR

Waymo is accelerating the efforts to bring their self-driving cars on the road. A few days after the announcement of a partnership with ride-hailing service Lyft the company show cases the first battery electric Jaguar iPace, of which the company has ordered 20,000 pieces. The car is seen in a picture at a drive-through of an In-N-Out-Burger.

Remarkable is the camouflaged new LiDAR, which we have seen and reported as first on this blog some days ago. Also noteworthy is the fact there are no additional LiDARs or radars visible from this photo’s perspective. And I am talking about the kind of sensor-arrangement that we are used to from the Fiat-Chrysler Pacifica minivans. This could point to the next stage of configurations with fewer LiDARs – or, Hell-No! – no LiDARs in the future. And this could make Elon Musk’s statement from a few days ago the industry’s accepted standard .
