Autonomous Shuttle Bus Olli Crashes Into Tree

Not a good week for autonomous vehicles. After it became known that Pony.AI had its driverless license revoked by the California DMV due to an accident in which a Waymo vehicle in manual mode hit a pedestrian, there was now an accident with an electric shuttle bus from the American manufacturer Local Motors in the city of Whitby in Canada.

An Olli electric bus in service in the city northeast of Toronto crashed into a tree for an unexplained reason, injuring the safety driver, who was taken to Toronto’s Emergency Operations Center.

The cars themselves travel at a maximum speed of 20km/h, and in addition to the sensors in the car, there are also 50 sensors installed throughout the track area that communicate with the car. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
